Town Hall Organ International Concert Series (Maurice Clerc, France) on Sunday 9th June 2019, 3.00 p.m. at the Christchurch Town Hall, Kilmore Street, Christchurch.
MAURICE CLERC
The celebrated titular organist of Dijon Cathedral in France for over 40 years, and a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour, Maurice Clerc is an orgnaist in the grand French tradition. Born in Lyon in 1946, Monsieur Clerc has travelled to four continents over his long and distinguished career, including 28 tours to North America and Canada, and given over 1300 concerts. Appropriately, he will play a programme of French music, including Cesar Franck’s famous Chorale no. 3 in A minor, works by Mouret, Louis Vierne and Gabriel Faure. His programme will end with an improvisation on a theme given to him only just before he plays! Impromptu creation of music is a tour de force for which all the great French organists are renowned.
