About Music Canterbury

Welcome to our website.

Music Canterbury is the Christchurch Civic Music Council which was established in 1941 and Incorporated as a registered charitable entity under the Charities Act 2005 on 30 June 2008. Registration number: CC27957.

Its aims are as follows:

•          To secure by co-operation with civic and other authorities and organisations the fullest measure of public recognition and support for all forms of musical    activity and to encourage the active interest and participation of the community in all forms of music-making.

•          To foster and promote the study, practice and performance of musical works and in particular of choral, orchestral and operatic works.

•          To promote combined music festivals from time to time as may be practicable.

•          To cooperate with organisations having similar objects throughout New Zealand.

Any established musical organisation is entitled to apply to the Executive for affiliation.  Each affiliated organisation is entitled to appoint two representatives to general meetings of the Council.
