English composer Arthur Sullivan is best known for his collaboration with W.S. Gilbert in a string of phenomenally successful comic operas. But he was also an accomplished composer in his own capacity, writing over 20 major orchestral and choral works; incidental music; hymns, songs and anthems; and piano and chamber pieces.
This concert is designed to provide a snapshot of one half of the legendary Gilbert and Sullivan duo, as well as a musician whose legacy ensures that he will occupy a permanent place within the pantheon of mainstream, 19th-century British composers.
