October sees the welcome return of Miles Jackson, highly respected as a teacher and performer throughout New Zealand and Andalusia, Spain.  Miles will present music spanning five centuries including music by European masters Luis de Narvaez, John Dowland, J.S. Bach, Fernando Sor, Francesco Tarrega and Federico Torrobo, as well as leading South American guitar composers Antonio Lauro and Jorge Cardoso.  Miles will also perform folk songs from around the world, including one beautiful arrangement by Paul McCartney.

Programme:
Four romantic Spanish pieces – Federico Moreno Torroba, Francisco Tarrega and Anonymous
Two Preludes – Johann Sebastian Bach
Five Preludes – Heitor Villa-Lobos
Three South American Dances – Jorge Cardoso, Antonio Lauro
Sonatina – Federico Moreno Torroba
Four Folk – Popular Pieces – Turlough O’Carolan, Traditional Catalan Folk Song, Paul McCartney, Spanish Folk Flamenco

Beginning his musical studies on the violin, Miles changed to classical guitar in 1965, studying with a number of distinguished teachers in Europe, including world renowned Czech guitarist Vladimir Mikulka and the English master guitarist John Mills.  Several visits to Spin have also allowed him to explore and develop expertise in Flamenco techniques.  Working as a professional musician since 1972, he has performed with many music groups, especially with his wife Margaret Jackson, working as Duo Jackson.  Miles has a keen interest in raising teaching and performance levels for the classical guitar in New Zealand and has taught at university and summer music schools throughout the country.  One of the founders and a former president of the New Zealand Federation of Classical Guitar Societies, Miles has also organised concert tours and workshops for many outstanding classical guitarists from overseas.
