Christopher’s Classics Series XIX 2014 presents “Affetto” – 8.00 p.m.

March 6, 2014

Christopher’s Classics presents “Affetto” on Thursday 6th March at 8.00 p.m. at Church of St Michael and All Angels, 86 Oxford Terrace, Christchurch

“Venus in Venice”a programme of 16th and 17th century music for voice and instruments.

The inspired Auckland based group, Affetto opens the Christopher Classics 2014 season, performing a selection of music from the little known wonderful Venetian composer Barbara Strozzi, her contemporary Claudio Monteverdi, and others whose music in rarely heard in New Zealand.

Affetto, which means mood, emotion or affect in Italian, was formed in 2010 by early music specialists to explore the lesser known chamber music of the Baroque and Renaissance.  The four members of the group, all overseas trained, are leaders in their respective fields and passionate about the music they play.  Soprano Jayne Tankersley’s voice has been praised for its special quality, admirably suited to this repertoire, ably abetted by Peter Reid (cornetto), Polly Susses (treble and bass viola da gamba) and Rachael Griffiths-Hughes (harpsichord).

Tickets for Christopher’s Classics concerts are available from the Court Theatre Booking Office with credit card or cash payment.  Phone (03) 963 0870 or book online at www.courttheatre.org.nz.  Cash only door sales are available at the concert.  Note: Bring a cushion to soften the pews.
