CBS Choir – J.S. Bach – St John Passion – 8.00 p.m.

J.S. Bach’s St John Passion will be performed at 8.00 p.m. on Good Friday, 29th March 2013 in St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, Manchester Street. Written for Good Friday in 1723, the Passion is a compact and intensely dramatic setting of St John’s description of Christ’s last hours.
The CBS Junior Choir will join the Cathedral Choir during the chorales, and soloists will be Sue Densem, Ruth Reid, Wally Enright, David O’Beirne, Ken Joblin and Chris Whelan, with John Murray as the Evangelist. David Williams will lead the orchestra, with Hugo Zanker, cello and Michael Lawrence, harpsichord and the performance will be directed by Don Whelan.
On Easter Sunday morning, the liturgy of the 10.30 a.m. Solemn Mass will include Handel’s Worthy Is the Lamb & Amen chorus, the Byrd motet Haec Dies, and Mozart’s Coronation Mass.
