Waimakariri Community Arts Council presents “Lixin Zhang – piano recital”

$5 – $20Lixin is a brilliant young Christchurch pianist currently studying music at Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles with Professor Fabio Bidini.
We’re thrilled Lixin is returning to perform in Rangiora’s Chamber Gallery during his short time back home in Christchurch. Lixin will be playing works by Chopin, Beethoven and Rachmaninov. This is certainly a concert not to miss!

Lixin Zhang is 21 and is currently studying with Professor Fabio Bidini at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles. He started learning the piano at the age of four. Lixin was first recognised nationally at eleven years old for his musical achievements. He was awarded the Irene Lassen Exhibition award by the Royal Schools of Music for his first diploma exam. Since then, he has attained both the Licentiate Royal Schools of Music with distinction and the Trinity College FTCL.
Lixin won first prize in the 2016 Wallace National Junior Piano Competition and the special award for Best Performance of a Classical Sonata. Since then, he has won each of the major New Zealand piano competitions, including the National Young Performer Award, the Wallace National Piano Competition, and the National Concerto Competition. Lixin received the Silver Medal at the 2021 Gina Bachauer International Young Artists Piano Competition and was a Semifinalist at the 2023 Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition.
He has given recitals in Asia, Europe, and New Zealand and has participated in numerous international music festivals including PianoTexas and the Aspen Music Festival. Rattle Records released Lixin’s first album ‘Play’ in 2018, which promptly reached first place in Radio NZ’s Classical Charts.
In addition to playing the piano, Lixin also plays the violin and has attained the Licentiate Trinity College London certificate. Lixin founded ToneAce Academy in 2022 with the aim to promote musical excellence in New Zealand.
