Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre presents “Lorna Zhang (violin)” on Tuesday 15th August 2023, 1.10pm to 1.50pm at Great Hall, Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre, 2 Worcester Boulevard, Christchurch

Lorna Zhang is a violinist from Auckland, New Zealand. She was a semi-finalist in the 2021 National String Competition. She was also a member of the NZSO National Youth Orchestra 2022. Having enrolled in the Chiron Music Academy since 2018, Lorna received the CLEF Scholarship from 2019-2022. Lorna is currently an undergraduate at the University of Auckland, studying under the guidance of Stephen Larsen. As a chamber musician, Lorna received the Helen Young Diamond Award in the NZCT National Chamber Music Contest 2020, also placing third in the 2022 contest. She is part of a chamber group, Kaha Trio, alongside Madeleine Xiao (piano) and Damon Herlihy-O’Brien (cello). The trio performs regularly around Auckland and is an ‘Aspiring Musicians’ ensemble in association with Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.

This concert is part of the Rising Stars Concert Series 2023. A new Tuesday lunchtime concert series that’s encouraging, supporting, nurturing and providing a performance platform for emerging young musicians.
