October 7, 2020 @ 7:30 pm

Sunday Classics Inc.  Christopher’s Classics Series XXV programme presents “NZ Trio” on Wednesday 7th October  2020, 7.30 p.m. at The Piano, 156 Armagh Street, Christchurch

Ashley Brown (cello)
Amalia Hall (violin)
Somi Kim (piano)

Described as a “national treasure” and “New Zealand’s most indispensable ensemble” (William Dart, NZ Herald), NZTrio is renowned for its eclectic repertoire, outstanding talent and warm kiwi stage presence. The trio smashes outmoded preconceptions of classical music being stuffy or intimidating by presenting a fresh and approachable style that appeals to listeners from all walks of life. Every NZTrio performance reaffirms the importance of a live musical experience in today’s digital world.

Beethoven – Piano Trio in C minor, Op. 1 No. 3;
Kriztos Hatzis – Old Photographs’;
Salina Fisher – Kintsugi (new NZ work);
Dinuk Wijeratne – Love Triangle;
Ravel – Piano Trio in A minor.

Flanked by beloved piano trios by Beethoven and Ravel, the heart of the programme comprises a new work by Salina Fisher and colourful works by two Juno Award-winning composers who have made Canada home. Greek-born Kristos Hatzis’ fiery dance-inspired Old Photographs contrasts with the sinuous Middle Eastern and North Indian melodies of Love Triangle by Sri-Lankan-born Dinuk Wijeratene.
