Resonance Ensemble presents “Confluence”

September 17, 2023 @ 3:00 pm

$5 - $25

Confluence.  Often used to refer to the joining of two or more flowing bodies of water into a single channel.
This concert brings together beautiful streams of music flowing from America and Russia…

Our programme, conducted by Maestro Tony Ryan, opens with Shostakovich’s joyous and popular Festive Overture and ends with his Ninth Symphony, which is inspired, appealing, high-spirited, and also one of his most popular works.

Christchurch soprano, Helen Charlton, joins us for six of Aaron Copland‘s captivating Old American Songs.  Helen will also sing Rachmaninov’s famous Vocalise and Samuel Barber’s gloriously lyrical Sure on this Shining Night; both songs written by their respective composers just before two of the twentieth century’s most devastating events – the Russian Revolution of 1917, and World War II.

Our brass section features in Copland‘s response to America’s entry into WWII with his remarkably original Fanfare for the Common Man.
