Knox Singers in association with Seasoning Ensemble present “emergence” on Sunday 13th September 2020, 2.30 p.m. at Knox Church, 28 Bealey Avenue, Christchurch

Join the Knox Singers in association with Seasoning Ensemble for an effervescent programme of sparking choral and instrumental music as we emerge out of winter, and into spring!

Performances conducted by Daniel Cooper.

Choral and solo vocal items on the programme will be accompanied by an expanded Seasoning Ensemble, led by virtuoso violinists Rakuto Kurano and Professor Mark Menzies (UC School of Music).

This concert features the world premiere of a specially commissioned tone poem for chorus, soprano and orchestra by New Zealand composer Gabriel Baird entitled “de l’Hiver au Printemps” (from winter to spring).

The concert also features the vocal delights of soprano Holly Evans, tenor David O’Beirne, and bass Albert Bennett.

Holly will present the gorgeous “Schafe können sicher weiden” (Sheep may safely graze) from Bach’s Cantata no. 208, accompanied by the original orchestration of 2-recorders, archlute, cello and organ. Albert Bennett will perform the visceral “Ombra mai fu” (tender and beautiful fronds) from Handel’s Opera “Serse”.

All three soloists will join the Knox Singers accompanied by Seasoning Ensemble for a performance of Schubert’s Mass in G-major.
