Jubilate Singers presents “The Earth We Share” on Sunday 28th May 2023, 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. at The Piano, 156 Armagh Street, Christchurch

Jubilate Singers unplugged, purely choral, presenting haunting and compassionate music in support of our environment. A tribute to the diversity of life on Earth, long may it last.

Frank Ticheli (b. 1958 USA) Earth Song A prayer expressing the deep, universal longing for inner peace in a world full of strife
Clément Janequin (1485-1558 France) Le chant des Oiseaux An enchanting montage of Renaissance birdsong
Arvo Pärt (b.1935 Estonia) The Deer’s Cry A plaintive setting of ‘Saint Patrick’s Breastplate’, a traditional Irish prayer for protection
Murray Schafer (b.1933 Canada) Magic Songs ‘Humans may speak, but nature sings’ A provocative statement about the impact of humankind on the environment with the hope of bringing restoration.

Peaceable Kingdom: Oil on Canvas, painted about 1835 by Edward Hicks of Attleborough, Pennsylvania..jpegErik Esenvalds (b.1977 Latvia) Stars (with rubbed glasses and Tibetan singing bowls) words by Sara Teasdale. An ethereal work in the ‘mystical music’ oeuvre that lifts the listener to a place of cosmic calm.

Randall Thomson (b.1899-1984 USA) The Peaceable Kingdom A work based on the paintings of artist Edward Hicks exploring the theme of peaceful coexistence with wild animals.
