$10 – $35Dave Flynn’s Celtic Guitar Master Tour Comes to The Piano, Ōtautahi/Christchurch
Award-winning Irish-Kiwi composer and performer Dave Flynn brings his acclaimed solo show Celtic Guitar Master to Ōtautahi/Christchurch on Saturday 28th March 2026. The concert will be held at The Piano and begins at 7.30 pm (doors 7pm).
Fresh from a 34-date European tour, Flynn offers audiences a rare opportunity to experience his richly expressive Celtic music live in an intimate and evocative setting. The Piano’s Chamber Room, with its beautiful acoustics, provides the perfect backdrop for Flynn’s blend of Irish, Scottish and other Celtic traditions, alongside original compositions inspired by Aotearoa/New Zealand.
This performance will showcase pieces from his Kiwi-Celtic suite Sketches of Aotearoa — including a tune dedicated to legendary local band The Bats, who are Flynn’s favourite New Zealand band. The concert will highlight selections from Flynn’s debut album Draíocht, on its 20th anniversary release year. Flynn also promises a couple of local well-known guest musicians will join him during his show. To find out who they are, you’ll have to come along to the show!
Flynn’s performances have been praised by Radio New Zealand for working “effortlessly across musical boundaries” and by the NZ Listener for giving “Irish music a classical twist”. Critic Elizabeth Kerr (Five Lines) described his shows as possessing an “intoxicating verve”.
The show is part of a wide-ranging tour of Aotearoa/New Zealand which includes events in some of the most remote areas of the motu, from Rakiura/Stewart Island to Karamea.
