Chamber Music NZ presents Uri Caine with the NZSQ
March 21, 2016 @ 7:30 pm
Chamber Music NZ presents Uri Caine with the NZSQ on Monday 21st March 2016, 7.30 p.m. at Charles Luney Auditorium, St Margaret’s College, 12 Winchester Street, Christchurch. Preconcert Q&A at 6.30 p.m. with Tom Rainey.
Jazz meets the classics. Caine’s collaborations extend from the Beaux Arts Trio to John Zorn, and from the Woody Herman Band to the Moscow Chamber Orchestra. He studied composition with George Crumb and George Rochberg, and has gone on to release recordings of improvisations on works by Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner, Mahler and Schumann.
During his tour he is joining forces with our very own New Zealand String Quartet. This collaboration with Uri Caine will include his original compositions for piano and string quartet, Jagged Edges and String Theories. This concert will also feature an improvisation on the Allegretto con variazioni of Beethoven’s ‘Harp’ Quartet Op. 74, and the magnificent Goldberg Variations of J.S. Bach.
