Finnish violinist Vesa-Matti Leppanen is Concertmaster of the NZSO and a featured Naxos artist. His latest recording of Lyell Cresswell’s work for violin and voice (with Madeleine Pierard) has won critical acclaim.
A Christopher’s Classics regular, pianist Diedre Irons tours extensively here and internationally. She has taught at Canterbury University and the New Zealand School of Music for many years. Equally at home playing solo or with chamber musicians, her performances are praised for their intimacy and sensitivity.
Recently appointed at Principal Cellist of the NZSO, Andrew Joyce first performed for Christopher’s Classics in 2012 with the Aroha String Quartet. He has performed all over the world.
Beethoven’s Piano Trio, Op. 70 No. 2 is a stunning example of his dramatic middle period. Debussy’s Violin Sonata in G minor and Cello Sonata are late masterpieces in miniature. Franz Schubert’s Trio in E flat reunites these three masterful musicians for a lively conclusion.
