EEK! Final A4 Risingholme Orchestra

Risingholme Orchestra invites you to our concert based on music evoking supernatural subjects, starting with Heinrich Marschner’s “Overture” to his opera Der Vampyr.

A blast from the past follows with the death-throes of the lead vampire in Stiff Luck for the Undertaker – a comic operetta with music by Philip Norman, written in 1974.

Camille Saint-Saëns’s symphonic poem Danse Macabre ups the ante in the ghoul stakes as skeletons perform frenzied dances, egged on by the Devil’s solo violin.

The Complete Harry Potter comprises a medley of music themes compiled from the phenomenally popular series of eight fantasy films which appeared between 2001 and 2011.

The second half of the concert opens with “Time Warp” from the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Some 100 years earlier Gustav Mahler was putting the finishing touches to his epic Symphony No. 1 (Titan); and today we play an excerpt from the 3rd movement.

Bernard Herrmann’s three-movement Vertigo Suite from Alfred Hitchcock’s film of the same name centres on the theme of obsession; “Marley’s Aria” from Philip Norman’s A Christmas Carol is sung by the ghost of Scrooge’s former business partner.

Our concert concludes with the suitably rambunctious “Witches’ Round Dance” from the Finale of Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique.
