The Morton Trio features three emerging Kiwi professionals, two of whom are married!
Horn player Alexander and violinist Arna Morton hail from Christchurch and pianist Liam Wooding is from Whanganui. Currently studying at the Australia National Academy of Music and the University of Melbourne, the bond between these three friends brings a unique sensitivity to their performances, enabling them to explore the rich sonorities possible when a horn replaces the cello in a piano concerto.
Besides the Brahms horn trio and the lesser known Szymanowski ‘Mythes’, they’ve chosen to play ‘Homecoming’ by celebrated Christchurch raised musician, conductor and composer, Kenneth Young, the recipient of the Lilburn Trust Citation in recognition of outstanding services to New Zealand music in 2004.
