Shostakovich – Two Pieces for String Octet, Op. 11
Enescu – String Octet in C Major, Op. 7
Mendelssohn – Octet in E-flat Major, Op. 20
Audiences have the opportunity to hear three vibrant youthful works performed by the critically acclaimed Amici Ensemble in the second concert in the Christopher’s Classics 2014 season.
Chosen by the Ensemble to demonstrate the emerging genius of three great composers, the works include a Shostakovich Scherzo described by one critic as “… the wildest single movement in the literature of the string octet”, an Enescu String Octet combining the musical language of the late Romantic era with melodies steeped in Romanian folk tradition, and Mendelssohn’s famous string Octet.
