CBS Music presents Heidelberg Youth Chamber Orchestra – 6.00 p.m.

September 5, 2013

15$ - 20$

One of the best young chamber orchestras in Germany will give a concert of popular string works at 6.00 p.m. on Thursday 5th September in St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, 373 Manchester Street The Heidelberg Youth Chamber Orchestra will play Grieg, Mozart, Arensky and Tchaikovsky and will be joined in one of their pieces by selected players from both the University of Canterbury and Pettman National Junior Academy.

Proceeds will contribute to a set of rooms alongside the Pro-Cathedral, which will provide rehearsal, storage and administration space for the Cathedral Choir and Orchestra for the immediate future.  CBS Music is attempting to raise $50,000 towards this cost.  The CBS Orchestra, which traverses a wide variety of repertoire, has provided opportunities for many orchestral players in past years, and offers scholarships to encourage its younger members.  Admission will be by door donation of $20 and $15.

The Junge Kammerphilharmonie Rhein-Neckar is one of the best young chamber orchestras in Germany – as their winning of the 7th German Orchestra Competition impressively shows.  Founded in 2002 as Junges Kammerorchester Heidelberg at the music school of Heidelberg, the orchestra has been under the leadership of conductor Thomas Kalb since 2007.  The orchestra assembles the most advanced students of the Rhine-Neckar and Neckar-Odenwald regions, mostly laureates of Germany’s National Competition for young musicians Jugend Musiziert.
