SUMMARY:Chamber Music New Zealand presents "Silver Stone Wood Bone"
DESCRIPTION:Chamber Music New Zealand presents “Silver Stone Wood Bone” on Wednesday 3rd November 2021\, 7.00pm to 8.00pm at the Christchurch Arts Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu\, Gloucester Street\, Christchurch \n“The truth is in our bones\, for flesh decays and bone endures.”\n― George R.R. Martin\, ‘A Feast for Crows’ \nSILVER STONE WOOD BONE weaves soundscapes and landscapes together into a haunting multi-sensory tapestry of music and moving image. \nBridget Douglas\, principal flute in the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra joins with Alistair Fraser\, renowned taonga pūoro researcher and artist\, to weave their two musical worlds across one magical night. Western flutes and traditional Māori instruments come together in both celebrated and new pieces by New Zealand composers including John Psathas\, Gillian Whitehead and Gareth Farr. \nRounding out the collaboration\, the performance is set against the striking backdrop of a specially commissioned video work by visual artist Bridget Reweti (Ngāti Ranginui\, Ngāi Te Rangi)\, illustrating our country’s unique landscapes that have literally shaped the sounds of these instruments over generations. \nSilver\, stone\, wood\, bone. Enduring materials that weather the storm. Beaten\, hollowed carved\, and polished to sing songs of the past and breathe life into the future. This is music of and for Aotearoa. \nCREATIVES:\nBridget Reweti (moving image)\nAlistair Fraser (ngā taonga puoro)\nBridget Douglas (flutes) \nPRICE RANGE* Full Price $27 to $68 Concession Price $23 to $57 Limited $10 student rush tickets available \nContact: Jody Keehan  Cell phone: 027-6943640 Email: jody@chambermusic.co.nz;   \nhttps://chambermusic.co.nz/concert/silver-stone-wood-bone-chc/

SUMMARY:Camerata Concert - "Delta Serenade"
DESCRIPTION:Camerata Concert “Delta Serenade”– media release  \nDelta Serenade. Camerata Strings\, conductor Patrick Shepherd   \nSunday 7 November at 12.30pm\, the Great Hall\, Arts Centre\, Worcester Boulevard\, Christchurch   \nFree Admission  \nFor almost two years Covid-19 has changed the ways we live our lives. While the global pandemic has given us all pause for thought\, music has been one of the ways we have kept our spirits up during a time of uncertainty and social distancing. “Delta Serenade” acknowledges the challenges we have all faced and offers a brief respite from the world’s problems with a programme full of beautiful music from the string repertoire\, some old and some very new. \nThere are two actual serenades in the programme – one by Russian-American composer Elena Roussanova Lucas and the first movement of Suk’s deeply romantic serenade. Opening the programme is a Camerata favourite\, Andante Festivo by Sibelius\, followed by Concerto Grosso in G Op. 6 no.1 by Handel. Another popular gem from the string orchestra repertoire is Mozart’s evergreen Divertimento no.1\, the first of the so-called three Salzburg Symphonies. We are delighted to feature two Christchurch composers in the concert with a new work by Burnside High School student Jamison Clarke (Medieval Dance) and Richard Oswin’s Moa Tango. \nThe concert is part of the all-day events celebrating the 80th Anniversary of Music Canterbury (formerly the Christchurch Civic Music Council).
