She and the instrument come as a package and anyone who’s seen her perform live has witnessed a perfect partnership. Her playing is as flawless as it is loose and joyful’. – Rhythms Magazine Australia.

SUMMARY:Christchurch Symphony Orchestra presents "Variations"
DESCRIPTION:Christchurch Symphony Orchestra presents “Variations” on Saturday 25th March 2023\, 7.30 p.m in Douglas Lilburn Auditorium\, Christchurch Town Hall\, Kilmore Street\, Christchurch \nIn Dances of Galánta\, Kodály artfully weaves together Hungarian folk songs from his childhood town of Galánta. The Dances put Kodály’s mastery of orchestration on display\, with a rich palette of instrumental colours creating a work that exemplifies how music can both transport and connect us to cultures far from our own. \nCelebrated Ōtautahi Christchurch-based pianist Michael Endres joins the CSO to perform Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini\, a set of firework-filled variations that pay homage to the last of violin virtuoso Niccolò Paganini’s 24 caprices for solo violin. \nBritish composer Edward Elgar’s famous Enigma Variations took shape out of a simple melody that Elgar skilfully crafted into a series of 14 variations representing musical caricatures of friends\, his wife\, and even himself; complete with coded titles. The cipher-loving Elgar always maintained that he also hid a musical mystery in the main theme. Audiences will immediately recognise the spine-tingling Nimrod variation\, which has undoubtedly achieved universal tear-jerker status. \nBenjamin Northey – Chief Conductor\nMichael Endres – Piano\nKodály – Dances of Galánta\nRachmaninov – Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini\nElgar – Enigma Variation

SUMMARY:Resonance Ensemble presents "Outliers - familiar music not often performed"
DESCRIPTION:Resonance Ensemble presents “Outliers – familiar music not often performed” on Sunday 26th March\, 3.00 p.m. at The Piano\, 156 Armagh Street\, Christchurch \nOutliers features works of four composers: \n\nRossini (William Tell Overture)\nPonchielli (Dance of the Hours from La Gioconda)\nGounod (Ballet Music from Faust)\nBeethoven (Symphony No. 8)\n\nWe will play the full William Tell Overture\, including the dramatic cello opening\, a frighteningly realistic storm sequence\, a Swiss yodeling song from the flutes and cor anglais\, and of course\, the familiar final triumphant gallop set off by the trumpets and horns. \nGounod’s Ballet Music from Faust was not originally part of his most famous opera’s first performance.  Come along to the concert to hear the rather extraordinary inside story of how this exceptionally varied and appealing music came to be written. \nA third orchestral extract from opera is Dance of the Hours from Ponchielli’s opera La Gioconda.  Aside from the famous dance that ends Act 3\, this colourful and dramatic opera is rarely heard. \nThe final work of this concert\, most deserving of the label Outlier is Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8\, arguably Beethoven’s most innovative and experimental symphony. \nhttp://Click here to go through to Humanitix for tickets \nFor further information: \nText 027 226 1100 or email \nresonancechristchurch@gmail.com
