SUMMARY:Loop presents "Rhian Sheehan & Arli Liberman - Traces"
DESCRIPTION:Loop presents “Rhian Sheehan & Arli Liberman – Traces” on Saturday 22nd November 2025\, 7.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. at The Piano\, 156 Armagh Street\, Christchurch \nPricing: $72.50 – $97.50 \nLoop are proud to announce that acclaimed New Zealand musicians\, composers and producers Rhian Sheehan and Arli Liberman will bring their collaborative album Traces to life for the first time ever\, with a special three-show tour this November. \nThe tour will see the pair perform the album in its entirety at a series of intimate shows in Auckland\, Wellington & Christchurch. These shows will see them accompanied by Ed Zuccollo and Riki Pirihi aka Riki Gooch (TrinityRoots\, Orchestra Of Spheres) to bring the album to the stage. \nThis tour marks the long-awaited debut live performance of Traces\, an instrumental journey blending electronic\, ambient and post-rock soundscapes to create a world unlike anything else — described by filmmaker Sam Kelly as “an ethereal journey through dark and moody worlds.” \nFor the first time\, audiences will be able to experience this collaboration in a live setting. With both artists renowned for their powerful\, emotive performances and their ability to craft immersive sound journeys\, these shows promise to be as visually striking as they are sonically transporting. Live performances from both Sheehan and Liberman are a rare treat\, and this will be only the second-time ever both musicians will be performing together live. \nEach show will see Sheehan and Liberman joined by two collaborators on stage to help bring the worlds created in Traces to life. Ed Zuccollo will bring his trademark synth-wizardry to the stage\, as he did across a number of tracks on the album. His trademark sound has seen him perform with the likes of Troy Kingi\, Kita\, The Black Seeds and more\, in addition to his own solo work as Zuke. Riki Pirihi aka Riki Gooch is one of NZ’s most celebrated musicians for his work with TrinityRoots\, Fat Freddy’s Drop\, Cave Circles\, and countless others. \nThe four musicians will combine to perform Traces live\, with the second half of the show featuring all four musicians collaborating live on stage with tracks from each artist’s individual catalogues. \nThese shows will also feature the stunning visuals created for the project by Dunedin-based visual artist Sam Caldwell\, which are featured across the album cover and music videos. The Traces live experience will be a richly layered audio and visual feast\, unlike anything either artist has performed before. \nContact: Dan Clist \nEmail: dan@loop.co.nz \nWebsite: https://www.loop.co.nz/

SUMMARY:CSO Lamb & Hayward Masterworks presents "Harris\, Beethoven"
DESCRIPTION:CSO Lamb & Hayward Masterworks presents “Harris\, Beethoven” on Saturday 8th November 2025\, 7.30 p.m. in the Douglas Lilburn Auditorium\, Christchurch Town Hall\, Kilmore Street\, Christchurch \nThe Lamb & Hayward Masterworks season finale takes us from dark into the light. We bring you the world premiere of Aotearoa composer Ross Harris’ Symphony No. 8 for strings and percussion\, written as a musical response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and the devastation that has followed. A dark string lament is punctured by violent instrumental outcries\, but it is a symphony not without hopeful moments of melodic beauty. \nThis concert pairing speaks to the world in which we live\, while harking back to a world where hope was brought to life through music. Beethoven’s grand ninth symphony features the famous choral finale\, with text from Friedrich Schiller’s poem\, Ode to Joy\, which speaks to the triumph of human unity. \nWith thanks to PKF Goldsmith Fox\,\nCSO Soloist Partner\, and Young Hunter Lawyers\, CSO Chorus Partner. \nBenjamin Northey Chief Conductor\nRhiannon Cooper Soprano\nAshlyn Tymms Alto\nRidge Ponini Tenor\nSamuel McKeever Bass\nRachel Fuller Chorus Director\nCatrin Johnsson Chorus Director\nCSO Chorus\nRoss Harris Symphony No. 8\nBeethoven Symphony No. 9 in D minor Op. 12

Born and raised in Paris\, UK-educated and now based in Auckland\, the Franco-American singer\, songwriter and musician had a dizzying musical apprenticeship. A member of both gospel and Acapella choirs from a young age\, her music has taken her from the streets of Paris\, across the Kenyan savannah\, through remote Himalayan villages\, and then ’home’ to New Zealand. When she’s not performing\, Sonia teaches\, offering classes in individual and group ukulele\, guitar and vocals.” (Peter Malcouronne\, Ockham Collective)\nhttps://ockhamcollective.org.nz/r-sonia-wilson \n“Nigel Gavin is a multi award winning musician. Initially a visitor from Long Island\, New York\, now a Kiwi\, Nigel has long been a featured player in New Zealand’s music scene\, playing 7-string guitar\, banjo\, mandolin\, bass – indeed\, almost anything with strings – with the Nairobi Trio\, the Fondue Set\, the Jews Brothers\, the Blue Bottom Stompers\, Lorina Harding\, Wayne Gillespie\, Whirimako Black\, Jonathan Besser & Bravura among others. He has also found time to create and mentor the multi-guitar ensemble Gitbox Rebellion. Gavin is a guitarist with remarkable versatility who is respected by other players around the world\, and who excites audiences with jaw-dropping solos. He continues to work internationally in New Zealand\, Europe\, Australia and the United States.”\nhttps://www.audioculture.co.nz/profile/nigel-gavin \nEmail: info@artscentre.org.nz \nLink: https://www.artscentre.org.nz/whats-on/a-french-musical-soiree-with-sonia-and-nigel/

SUMMARY:Risingholme Orchestra presents "EEK! Spooky Music for Halloweeners"
DESCRIPTION:RISINGHOLME ORCHESTRA PRESENTS \nEEK! Spooky Music for Halloweeners \nSunday 2 November 2025\,  2.00pm at The Piano\, 156 Armagh Street \nFor tickets visit https://events.humanitix.com/eek \nEEK! Final A4 Risingholme Orchestra \nRisingholme Orchestra invites you to our concert based on music evoking supernatural subjects\, starting with Heinrich Marschner’s “Overture” to his opera Der Vampyr. \nA blast from the past follows with the death-throes of the lead vampire in Stiff Luck for the Undertaker – a comic operetta with music by Philip Norman\, written in 1974.  \nCamille Saint-Saëns’s symphonic poem Danse Macabre ups the ante in the ghoul stakes as skeletons perform frenzied dances\, egged on by the Devil’s solo violin. \nThe Complete Harry Potter comprises a medley of music themes compiled from the phenomenally popular series of eight fantasy films which appeared between 2001 and 2011.  \nThe second half of the concert opens with “Time Warp” from the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Some 100 years earlier Gustav Mahler was putting the finishing touches to his epic Symphony No. 1 (Titan); and today we play an excerpt from the 3rd movement. \nBernard Herrmann’s three-movement Vertigo Suite from Alfred Hitchcock’s film of the same name centres on the theme of obsession; “Marley’s Aria” from Philip Norman’s A Christmas Carol is sung by the ghost of Scrooge’s former business partner. \nOur concert concludes with the suitably rambunctious “Witches’ Round Dance” from the Finale of Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique.
