SUMMARY:A Performance of the Monteverdi Vespers (1610) - Jubilate Singers - 7.30 p.m.
DESCRIPTION:The Jubilate Singers will combine with Wellington’s Baroque Voices and Burnside High School’s Bel Canto choir in presenting Monteverdi’s largest work\, his Vespro della Beata Vergine\, one of the best-loved compositions of the choral repertoire.  Part of a larger 1610 Venice publication\, the Vespers comprises large psalm settings\, smaller-scale motets\, a lavishly scored sacred concerto\, and a setting of the Magnificat.  The Vespers is courtly and majestic in places and touchingly intimate in others.  A pinnacle of Renaissance music\, the work contains elements that look forward to the Baroque style to come\, and spectacular vocal and instrumental effects that are still capable of thrilling audiences four centuries later. \nDirected by Grant Hutchinson. \nTickets are $25/$20 (concession) and school students are admitted free of charge.

SUMMARY:Aeolus Saxophone Quartet featuring Mark Hobson - Jazz Series 2012 - 7.30 p.m.
DESCRIPTION:Mark calls on his colleagues to join him in this ensemble – a very unique sound and texture rarely heard in New Zealand. Aeolus will explore this sound using repertoire especially written for this combination and arrangements of well known material. \nAeolus:\nMark Hobson – Soprano Saxophone\nAngela Mote – Andrews – Alto Saxophone\nGiles Reid – Tenor Saxophone\nLana Law – Baritone Saxophone \nThe programme will feature original compositions by American Michael Torke\, Australian Martin Kay and Christchurch Composer Glenn Forest.  With arrangements off Jazz Standards such as A Night in Tunisia\, Round Midnight\, My Funny Valentine and Fly me to the Moon. \nAs a special treat they will be joined by another 4 colleagues (Jennie Gough\, Linda Drummond\, Stacey Williams and Nathan Green) to play a couple of Octets. \nConcert and light supper.
