Nut Point Centre presents NZTrio

Nut Point Centre presents NZTrio on Saturday 1st October 2016 at 7.30 p.m.

NZTrio: Justine Cormack (violin); Ashley Brown (cello) and Sarah Watkins (piano) – New Zealand’s leading professional ensemble in contemporary classical music.  Known for their unique concert programmes, NZTrio seeks out less mainstream works of old, and pairs them with newly commissioned works, offering a menu of musical styles that maximises visceral response.  As born-and-bred Kiwis, their warm personalities add an intimate, down-to-earth flavour to all of their performances, matched with the finest calibre of musicianship.

Their 1st October programme offers a range of colour, texture and emotion with the sultry tango-esque sounds of Argentina’s Astor Piazzolla; a shimmering work about light frequencies by New Zealand composer Gareth Farr; a jazzy piano trio by John Musto brimming with vigorous bopping rhythms and urban evening blues; and finishing with a grand sweep of lamenting passion in Rachmaninov’s Trio Elegiaque No. 2
